Places In The Philippines Na Pang Miss Universe Ang Beauty

For four decades, the Miss Universe crown has been elusive and thought to be a myth until today. Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach finally stole the limelight and emerged as this year's Miss Universe.

To celebrate Filipino world class beauty, here is a list of some wonderful places in the Philippines that one can be truly proud off.

El Nido, Palawan
El Nido is in itself heaven on earth, with its glittering waters and limestone islands that seem to float as if by magic. Choose your destination among its many islands then ride your boat to the Big Lagoon where you might share a reef with a sea turtle. Conde Nast Traveler named El Nido as the most beautiful island in the world.

Boracay, Aklan
Aah, Boracay. That not-so-hidden gem of an island with powdery white sand beaches and clear azure waters. Boracay offers the best of both worlds, whether you prefer a serene stay lounging on the beach or a feisty bar hopping night in its bar district. Don’t forget to try out the waters; swim and dive to your heart’s content.

Batanes
The province of Batanes is the northernmost province of the Philippines. It is the smallest province in the country in terms of land area and population. The island province of Batanes is composed of 6 municipalities : Basco, Mahatao, Ivana, Uyugan, Sabtang and Itbayat.

Marlboro Country, Batanes

Davao
From climbing the highest peaks of Mount Apo to diving the deep waters of Samal Island, Davao offers every summer activity imaginable.  Drop by for a visit to the kings of wildlife, the Philippine Eagle, in its home base in the Philippine Eagle Center, and Pangil, the largest crocodile in the Crocodile Park. You can also enjoy a relaxing day at the Garden of Eden Restored in the mountain of Tamayong.

Cebu
The Queen City of the South, Cebu is a wonderful pick for a vacation. There’s nothing that can disappoint you when you reach Cebu. The people are friendly and the city and resorts have all the commodities that you need. There are also many destinations to choose from in the island, all of them rich in culture, history and natural beauty.

Tiamban Beach, Romblon
Tiamban is very accessible from the town of Romblon, but still manages to be very private and secluded. Enjoy peace and quiet along the gentle shores. There are available rooms to spend the night in, but we suggest you try camping under the clear night skies of Romblon.

Siargao
Brace yourselves, surfing junkies, because Siargao is the place to be if you want to catch a wave. But it’s not only the waves that define Siargao, there are also dive sites and tidal pools around that you can explore. Try the shallow waters and rock formations in Magpupungko for starters.

Islas de Gigantes, Iloilo
Islas de Gigantes is a group of islands which is part of the municipality of Carles in the Iloilo province. Although it is part of Carles, the most popular jump-off point is the town of Estancia as there are a lot of boats which regularly go to Islas de Gigantes. Enjoy a day of island hopping, swimming and snorkeling when you visit Islas de Gigantes.

Zamboanga
Located at the tip of Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga City is one of the most progressive cities in Mindanao. It is labelled as “Asia’s Latin City” because of its Spanish-influenced Chavacano dialect – dating back to the Spanish era in the 1600's. Today, Zamboanga City continues to attract travelers who want to experience the city's interesting dialect, Spanish inspired dishes offered in may restaurants, beautiful beaches, and many other historical and natural attractions.

Coron
If you like adventure, Coron is one of the places in the Philippines you should explore. Its Kayangan Lake is considered to be the cleanest in the country. It has crystal clear water which make it an ideal place to go snorkeling and diving.

Bohol
When you talk about Bohol, you’ll immediately think Tarsier, Chocolate Hills, and the Loboc River Cruise. But Bohol is also home to up and coming Panglao Beach, which has garnered a following of its own. Its waters are clear, its beaches are great, and the food is good, too.

Sagada
Sagada in Mountain Province is a stark contrast from urbanized Baguio. Nature activities abound whether you’re trekking the mountains to see the hanging coffins, climbing the stepped rice fields, or spelunking in the limestone caves. Don’t pass the opportunity to witness local customs, as the locals have ceremonies for life events like weddings, planting, and harvesting rice.

Vigan
About 400 kilometers from Manila is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vigan. It is the capital city of Ilocos Sur and has recently been declared as one of the New Seven Wonder Cities (N7WC) of the world.

Banaue
One of the nine (9) towns of Ifugao Province, Banaue is one of the Philippines' most popular tourist destinations for local and foreign travelers. Its Rice Terraces is considered as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and declared as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

Ilocos Norte
Ilocos Norte is one of the most visited places in the Northern Luzon. Not only it is popular for its beaches, Ilocos Norte also has cultural environmental sights. Drive around to see Cape Bojeador, the Bangui Windmills, Kapurpurawan Rock formation, the scenic route of Patapat Viaduct and the white sand beaches of Pagudpud.

FOOD: Mido Café Hong Kong

With Hong Kong's love for bright, shiny new things, I believe it's quite a miracle that Mido Cafe is still there, let alone still looks the way it does.

Mido Cafe is a Cha Chan Teng which basically means Hong Kong-Style tea house. It is said to have come about when Hong Kong people began to have a taste for western food after World War II. Unfortunately, real western food remained to be out of reach for the common folk so local diners started to churn out affordable western-influenced dishes.

Aside from the “fusion” food that came about – think Chinese barbecue or Pork Chop with applesauce and steamed rice -, it was the convenience that fueled its staying power. Cha Chan Tengs are often within walking distance from homes, schools, and offices. They are open until the wee hours or even round the clock.

But aside from what I think is very Hong Kong food, it was the interiors that brought me here. The well-preserved 60s interior was just gorgeous. Felt like I stepped inside a Wong Kar-wai film or something.

If there is one thing you must do in Hong Kong – aside from looking at Hong Kong Island from the harbor at Tsim Tsa Tsui, it’s having meal at a Cha Chan Teng.

I just love the curved wall! It certainly adds to the retro vibe of the place.

Look at that those booths and banquet chairs. Talk about old-school!

Pretty happy that the owners decided to keep this vintage till!

What especially love about the place is it's not pretentious at all.
Look how wonderfully imperfect the place is.

Those floor tiles are exactly the same as the bathroom floor tiles of our 30 year-old house.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the floor.

We ordered baked pork chop with tomato sauce and roast pork on rice.

Aiselle, the local, was my date for the night.

EVENTS: International Premier Tennis League 2 in Manila

Feels like the world has finally come to our shores.

Coming from a third world country, we often have to cross oceans and continents just to catch our favorite artists or champs live in action. But in the past couple of years, it seems that some people has finally realized that there is a country in this corner of the world.

Case in point is the International Premier Tennis League which has brought Tennis Stars in our country. From 06-08 December 2015, past and present tennis stars play as teams. It's definitely a departure from the tourneys we all know.

From the IPTL official site:

Format

The IPTL teams compete in a customized round robin format of matches in each host country. The top two teams at the end of the round robin stage qualify for the final. The winner of the final is declared the champion.
With an aim to make the matches and the league more competitive for all the teams, in its second season, the league has terminated the ‘last set importance’ which gave the trailing team an opportunity to continue playing if they win the 5th set as played out in Season-I.
In Season-II, the 5th set continues in the conventional way, where the first team to score 6 games wins the set, with a 13-point tie-breaker to decide the winner, if the two teams are tied at 5-5.
If the two teams are tied (in terms of games won) at the end of the five (5) Sets, a super Shoot-Out is played in a Men’s Singles format to determine the winner of the Match. It is played as a 19-point super tiebreaker. The first team to win 10 points, 9-9 final point wins the Super Shoot-Out and hence the Match. A 2-point difference is not required, and it is not time bound (unlike Season 1).
The match-winner is the team that wins the most games and hence points, at the end of the five Sets.

Japan Warriors's Maria Sharapova didn't come to Manila this year
so I took a photo with her cardboard self instead at the Head booth
I'm backing this Brit. Unfortunately, he's not playing in Manila.

No more tennis rackets for me so I had to stand there like an idiot.

First day and I could hardly contain my excitement!

Singapore Slammers warming up.
Hola, Carlos Moya!

Two legends in one frame - UAE Royal's Goran Ivanisevic and Phil Maviricks' Mark Philippoussis.
Goran is still such a looker! heart emoticon

This may be no US Open but this legend was in the zone and out to annihilate Kurumi Nara. She did, actually, in like under ten or was it five minutes? Perhaps, her retaliation after being defeated by the same lady in Kobe? Hmmm..

Guess who I am rooting for?

My most-awaited Rafa moment. Never thought I'd get to witness him do his ritual in real life.
I know, Rafa. It's hard to believe that we won and you lost but I still love you. Yes, I still do.

Someone's going on international television.

Zabadani : A Taste of Middle Eastern Cuisine in Davao City

One of the Must-Try Restaurants in Davao, Zabadani Cafe & Restaurant is one of the few restaurants in the city that offers sumptuous halal foods. It mainly serves cuisines from the Middle East like kebab, kabsa, biryani, pita breads, hummus, and a lot more. Starting December today, December 8, 2015 they will also be serving pizza during their tea time from 2 pm to 5 pm.

During a blogger preview of their new offering, we were able to try their pizzas, pastas and teas as well as their delectable biryani and kabsa. As expected, it was a night full of scrumptious dishes. Starting today, they will be offering three kinds of pizza - Mediterranean pizza, Vegetable Pizza, and my favorite Zabadani Pizza. For as low as P149, you'll get a set of your favorite tea (red, Moroccan mint, herbs and flowers), a slice of pizza and pasta. It's definitely a great value for money!

Mediterranean Pizza P235
As for the tea, we've tried both their Moroccan Mint and Red Tea. They're a perfect match for the pizza and the pasta they served to us. Aside from the tea, we also tried their different coffee blends. I am not a coffee person but I definitely enjoyed their Layered coffee, half and half, and the crowd's favorite - Guatemalan coffee.

Pasta Bologenese
Chicken Samboosak P190
Chili Flakes & Garlic Sauce, a perfect match for their pizza!
Pita Shateerah P105
Zabadani Turn-overs P225
Pesto Pasta
Chicken Shawarma P105

For the main course, we had their best selling Chicken Kabsa and Biryani. We already feasted on their pizza, pasta and shawarma so we're almost full when the kabsa and biryani were served. But, since their kabsa is my favorite, I wasn't able to resist it. I had to try it. It was good. It was really good!

If you love Middle Eastern food or if you're curious about Mediterranean cuisine, I highly recommend you visit Zabadani Cafe at RAMP Bldg, Corner Jacinto Extension & Circumferential Road, Davao City. You may call them at 0917-309-6008. You may also visit their Cotabato Branch at 2nd Floor Annex 1, Mall of Alnor, Sinsuat Ave., Cotabato City.
