Pampanga Food Blog : Abe's Farm in Magalang

Located in Barangay Ayala, Magalang, Pampanga, Abe's Farm provides a unique leisure and gastronomic experience in the province. It offers a variety of facilities and amenities for guests to enjoy. It has a swimming pool, restaurant, spa, museum and a number of comfortable accommodations for a complete leisure and relaxation. It is named after Emilio Aguilar Cruz, the father of Larry J. Cruz, owner of the LJC group of restaurants.

Abe's Farm attracts customers who want to have laid back experience while having fun at the same time. The main reason why people visit the farm is to indulge their taste buds with authentic and delicious Capampangan cuisines in the comfort of a quiet and relaxing place.

During the Metro Angeles Food Tour, we were lucky enough to sample some of the best-selling dishes of Abe's Farm from appetizers, entrees, and desserts.

Paco Fern & Tomato Salad (P155.00)
The salad is made up of blanched fresh fiddlehead ferns, tomatoes, capsicum, red onions and garnished with slices of salted eggs. It is drizzled with vinaigrette to enhance the flavor of the salad.

Fried Lumpia (P135.00)
Crispy and savory vegetable spring rolls

Gising-gising (P240.00)
Abe's Farm's version of gising-gising is composed mainly of sliced kangkong stalks, meat, chili and coconut milk. The sweetness of the coconut milk and the kick of the chili make the dish more flavorful.

Sinuteng Baby Pusit (P175.00)
It's squid sauteed in olive oil, garlic, soy sauce and chili.

Knockout Knuckles (P595.00)
It's their version of the Pinoy-favorite crispy pata which uses only pork knuckles instead of the whole pork legs.

Crispy Pork Adobo ni Lola Ising (P395.00)
The pork belly was slow-cooked in soy sauce, vinegar and water to get the perfect tenderness of the meat. After which, it was deep fried to crisp the outside layer of the meat. It's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Binukadkad na Pla-pla (P395.00)
Deep fried butterflied fish.

Klasik Kare-Kare (P595.00)
Abe's Farm's Kare-kare has both oxtail and tripe with rich and tasty peanut sauce. I actually like the consistency of the sauce as it wasn't too thick. The added veggies were not overcooked so I also liked it.

Betute (P290.00)
Betute is a Pinoy exotic food which is basically deep-fried stuffed farmed frogs. It is widely available in the province of Pampanga.

Sikreto ni Maria (P165.00)
This is not your ordinary dessert. It's sticky rice and fresh slices of mangoes covered in vanilla ice cream. It's mouthwatering and refreshing.

Breakfast Buffet at Salt Resto in Widus Hotel & Casino

Salt Resto is Widus Hotel's all-day casual dining restaurant. It offers both local and international cuisines and it's open all day, serving buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It features a wide array of Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, American and Filipino dishes.

We were checked in at Widus Hotel & Casino during the Metro Angeles Food Tour so we were able to enjoy our complimentary breakfast at Salt Resto. We woke up early and excited to see what's in store for us. I personally was satisfied with the food especially their dimsum. I love Chinese food so I ate a lot of siomai for breakfast, hahaha.

There are a number of food choices but during buffet, I always go for what I want and what I am craving for. So, instead of trying everything they have, I only tried their main dishes and dimsum. I also ate a lot of their crispy bacon.

For dessert I had a couple of cupcakes and frozen yoghurt. Yes, they have unlimited frozen yoghurt where guests can eat as much as they want.

It was indeed a gastronomically satisfying breakfast and I am looking forward to try it again in the future.

Metro Angeles Restaurants : Binulo

Binulo is one of the most frequently visited restaurants in Pampanga. It is popular to both tourists and locals due to its authentic Kapampangan dishes. The restaurant has already been featured in a number of local TV shows like Rated K and Unang Hirit.

The name of the restaurant was derived from the word "Binulo" which is the Aeta's traditional process of cooking food using bamboo culms called "bulo".

During the Metro Angeles Food Tour, we were able to sample some of their best selling Kampampangan dishes. They served us with savory Kapampangan delicacies which we definitely enjoyed.

Paco Salad (P175.00)

It's made from fresh fiddle head fern with shrimps, salted egg, nuts,  tomatoes, and vinegar-based dressing. It's a refreshing starter. The presence of nuts added texture to the salad.

Shrimp Okoy (P175.00)

Another appetizer served was their famous shrimp okoy. It's made of grated green papaya and shrimps, deep fried, and served with vinegar. It was tasty especially when you dip it in vinegar.

Pangat na Ulang (P378.00)

Pangat sa Ulang is a freshwater prawn in savory sour broth. It is cooked in a bamboo culm and served hot. The unique way of cooking the dish made it more delightful.

Beef Kare Kare (P485.00)

Binulo's kare kare is made of oxtail, a variety of vegetables, and peanut sauce. It is then served with shrimp paste on the side. I love the consistency of the peanut sauce - it wasn't too thick.

Sisig (P280.00)

A food trip in Pampanga is not complete without tasting their most popular sisig. Binulo's version is no different from the other sisig I've tasted but it was definitely delicious.

Binukadkad na Hito (P295.00)

It's a deep-fried butterflied catfish served with boiled eggplant, ampalaya (bitter gourd), mustard leaves with buro (fermented rice) on the side. Buro  is an authentic Kapampangan dish and is a must-try when visiting Pampanga. Its taste and and pungent smell may be an issue, so some would not try it. But, when you combine it with the fish and the veggies, it will give you a bursting flavor.

Crispy Binagoongan (P310.00)

It's deep fried pork in shrimp paste. It's one of Binulo's best-selling dishes. This is one of my favorites. The crunchy pork complements well with the saltiness and sweetness of the shrimp paste.

Binulong Nasi (P150.00)

Binulong Nasi is Binulo's trademark recipe. It's cooked rice wrapped in banana leaves. It's not really my favorite but it's worth a try.

Suman with Mango Ice Cream (P175.00)

After sampling all the Kapampangan dishes served to us, we were very excited  to taste their dessert. I'd say, the mango ice cream is a perfect pair of the suman (sticky rice).

Dining at Binulo was like tasting the best of Kapampangan cuisine. It was definitely one of the highlights of the Metro Angeles Food Tour.

There are a lot of interesting places to eat in Angeles City, Pampanga and one of those is SAB Bistro. It is located at Mac Arthur Highway conveniently located in the central business district of Angeles City.

From Mother Cake House, we decided to just walk going to SAB Bistro. It was just around 15-minute walk and the weather was good so it was still convenient. Upon entering the restaurant, i immediately felt the good vibe. The interior was really nice and the place was cozy. The place makes you want to stay inside all day long. Seared Salmon with Spinacci (P295.00)
I love salmon so this was an instant favorite. It's pan seared salmon with herbs and spices topped with a generous amount of Spinaci sauce. It is served with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side. It's really flavorful.

Grilled Chicken Fillet with Lemon Butter Sauce (P210.00)
Charcoal-grilled chicken with herbs and spices served with veggies and lemon butter sauce. It tastes delicious and the lemon butter sauce complements the smokey flavor of the chicken.

Beef Salpicao (P220.00)
Made with 100% Pure and Tender Australian Beef, this is SAB Bistro's outstanding recipe and is one of their best-selling dishes. This is another favorite. It's so good you always want more. The salpicao sauce is perfect.

One of the best cheesecake I have tasted so far. It's a layer of red velvet and creamy cheesecake.

Chocolate Heaven (P160.00)
Chef’s favorite inspired by Serendipity III’s Frozen Hot Chocolate TM in New York City. It's sinfully delicious.

House Blend Iced Tea (P55.00)
Freshly brewed iced tea. It's a good thirst quencher.
