First, we would like to thank the previous four travelers who, despite of their busy schedules found time to share their experiences in The Philippines. This blog series aim to promote The Philippines not just to the foreigners but also to the Filipinos living in the country and to the Overseas Filipino Workers. This is to show how beautiful our country is.
1. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I'm Sab, the travel blogger behind JustOneWayTicket.com. I used to work as a graphic designer in Berlin until 2008, then I quit and traveled around the world for almost 15 months. After all this traveling, it was hard to get back to my old job and eventually in 2012 I started my travel blog and by now I'm making a living from it.
2. When did you first visit the Philippines?
In April 2009. I met a girl from the Philippines before who hosted me when I was couchsurfing in Macao. She invited me to the Philippines and a couple months later I decided to visit the Philippines. I fell quickly in love with the Philippines and since then I returned 10 times.
3. Why did you choose Philippines?
Because it was the first place in Asia where I truly felt welcome. The hospitality of the people is incomparable to the rest of the world. I love beaches and there is no better place than the Philippines if you're a beach bum.
4. What do you love most about the Philippines?
As I said, the beaches. The Philippines is a tropical paradise.
5. Your top 3 destinations in the Philippines and why?
It's really tough to cut it down to 3, there are so many amazing places in the Philippines and I've only seen a fraction of the country at all.
Siargao is definitely a place I could imagine to stay longer. Palawan is without doubt one of the most spectacular wonders in this world. And well, love it or hate it, but I do enjoy Boracay, in low season though. I have many friends there and it always feels good to return to the island.
6. What's the least thing that you like about the Philippines, things that need improvement?
I have to think a while to think about something that I absolutely don't like in the Philippines. Speaking of environment, but that's not only a problem in the Philippines, it's in many places an issue. I wish people would care more about the environment, don't dump your plastic bags and garbage on the streets, don't leave cigarette butts or straws on the beach, don't take a plastic bag if you only buy a can of soda. The Philippines is blessed with an amazing sea and landscape, so let's try to preserve it as much as we can.

Last night, I found myself staring blankly at the ceiling of my small pad. I don't know what really transpired but for some reasons I felt so alone and I was asking myself, is this the life I really want to live? At some point, I am very happy of where I am and what I am doing. But, on the other hand, I feel like there is a disconnect. There is something I want to do in my life. I tried to hit the sack but I couldn't, so I started to evaluate my life. It felt like a quarter life crisis but I was over that so many years ago.
I began to question my past decisions. Career-wise, I was already at the peak of my career when I left my last corporate job. I was the Group HR Manager of a big US firm in the Middle East. I began to imagine the life I would have if I pursued my career in the corporate world. I thought, I'd already be on top of the food chain. It occurred to me, what if I return to the corporate world? I know for a fact that I'll be able to land a job if I really want to. So, I updated my resume and my job profiles in my favorite job portals like Monster Gulf, Jobstreet, JobsDB, and WorkAbroad. I know I would start all over again but it really did not bother me much.
In the morning, an unknown number called me. I answered the call and it was from a local job agency. The recruiter asked me if I am available to work in the Gulf for a recruitment job. I didn't really know what to say, so I said I will get back to him.
The call made me think. In fact, I wasn't able to do work because my mind was busy thinking of so many possibilities. Should I go back to the corporate world or should I continue working as a freelancer where I can work from home and basically anywhere on flexible hours?
After few hours of contemplating, I realized going back to the corporate world is not really what I want. I want to travel indefinitely. I want to explore more places, meet a lot of people and basically learn a new culture and language. This is what I want. This is the very reason I quit my job. Unfortunately, I was too busy looking for the right person to be with forgetting my passion for travel. In short, I was too busy looking for love - a love that would probably not come in a lifetime.
So today, I will stop looking for love and concentrate on saving money to have the life that I want. Soon, I will live a digital nomad life. I will explore new places. I'll hit the road again. See you!

The Philippines' leading budget airline has just announced it's new international flights from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. In an unboxing video released by the airline, new routes from Manila, Cebu and Davao has been announced. A major surprise was the direct flight from Davao to Singapore. As of now, only Silk Air operates international flights from Davao via Cebu going to Singapore.
Aside from the Davao-Singapore-Davao flight, Cebu Pacific will also launch Manila-Fukuoka-Manila and Cebu-Taipei-Cebu starting December 17, 2015. Flight Schedule Davao to Singapore (Thursday, Sunday) leaves Davao at 17:35 and arrives in SIN 21:10 Singapore to Davao (Thursday, Sunday) leaves SIN 21:55; arrives in DVO 01:40 the next day.
Cebu to Taipei (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) leaves Cebu at 21:45 and arrives in Taipei at 00:25 the next day. Taipei to Cebu (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) leaves TPE 01:05; arrives in CEB 03:45 Manila to Fukuoka (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday) leaves Manila at 1415 and arrives in Fukuoka at 18:55. Fukuoka to Manila (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday) leaves FUK 2000 and arrives in MNL at 22:40. Watch the full unboxing video HERE.
We've heard a lot of good feedback with this blog series so we're very excited to give you more stories about foreigners who fell in love with The Philippines. The second edition we've had was with Will Hatton of The Broke Backpacker, this time we are featuring a gay couple travelers from the United Kingdom Stefan Arestis and Sebastien Chaneac of Nomadic Boys. They have recently visited The Philippines for 30 days and they'll tell us why they love The Philippines.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves?
We are gay couple, Stefan and Sebastien. We quit our jobs and London life last year to eat our way around Asia and plan to make travelling a long-term lifestyle and career.
Stefan, 32 is a former lawyer, of Greek Cypriot origin, born and raised in London. Sebastien, 33, is an IT geek, originally from France but moved to London to work in the finance industry. London is where we met.

2. When did you first visit the Philippines?
We first visited the amazing Philippines in May 2015 for 30 days (that’s how many days we get on a tourist visa – clearly not enough!).

3. Why did you choose Philippines?
We chose the Philippines because we are travelling around Asia and it naturally fell into our travel plans between Vietnam and Malaysia. But more importantly, in London, we have many Filipino friends and in Bangkok (one of our bases during this trip) we have another large circle of Filipino friends. We love them and have heard so much about this stunning country through them.

In addition, all our friends who have visited the Philippines have each raved about it, comparing it to the Maldives and the Thai islands, so naturally it would be a crime to travel in Asia and not visit!
We arrived in the Philippines with extremely high expectations, which were not only exceeded but also left us with a strong craving to return.

4. What do you love most about the Philippines?
Oh we have a massive soft spot for the people: their faces just exude this wonderful friendliness and warmth. Filipino hospitality is second to none. We made so many life long friends in the Philippines because everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

Despite the Catholic Church’s anti gay views, we found Filipinos to be open minded towards us as gay tourists. For example, we never felt discriminated in any way or felt any fear of being discriminated against compared to countries like the Maldives or Sri Lanka. In addition, we never felt uncomfortable to request double beds in hotels, whereas in countries like India or Russia we were far more cautious about this.

The presence of ladyboys is another pleasant surprise in the Philippines. Back in Europe, ladyboys are unfortunately discriminated against in society, particularly so in the gay communities, and dismissed as prostitutes. In the Philippines, ladyboys are regarded as a norm and appear to be completely accepted in society. Puts us to shame in Europe doesn’t it? 5. Your top 3 destinations in the Philippines and why?
Our itinerary in the Philippines was based on the best prices of internal flights we could find at the time of planning, being: Manila as a transport hub to enter and leave the country, then our time here split between Boracay and Palawan.
First, we loved the islands around El Nido over and above everything else. This is your image of that dream isolated tropical island paradise. We love snorkelling and scuba diving, so the underwater world here made it that even more special.

Second, we loved Boracay because no where else we know of in the world can you dress up and learn to swim like a mermaid – ha haha! Carabao and Puka beaches are another isolated paradise on an island which has a reputation for being too touristy.

Finally, we made heaps of friends in Manila, particularly in Quezon City, which made it special for us. We saw a different side to the Philippines here compared to the islands and coming from big city London, it was nice to see a taster of the Filipino big city equivalent.

6. What's the least thing that you like about the Philippines, things that need improvement?
Give us more than 30 days! Seriously – how do you expect people to get more out of this stunning countries with over 7,000 islands in just 30 days?!!!!
In all seriousness, infrastructure in more remote places like El Nido could do with some development – there’s no ATM there for example. But, this is of course a double edged sword and can go the direction of becoming a new Boracay. Controlled development needs to happen so as not to ruin all these magical 7,107 island gems.
Oh and balut…sorry guys, we tried it and really forced ourselves to go at it with an open mind, but we just didn’t take to it at all! Ha haha
